Founded by their daughters, Tia Roberson and Taryn LaPrath, the Foundation stands as a tribute to their parents' unwavering commitment to education, community service, and health advocacy. Through community-driven efforts, we strive to support and empower the next generation, fostering a love for learning and a commitment to wellness
Our scholarship programs aim to remove financial barriers for students pursuing higher education, reflecting Alvin and Saadia's deep belief in the power of learning. By supporting students in their academic journeys, we help them realize their dreams and contribute meaningfully to society.
Promoting literacy is another cornerstone of our mission. We understand that literacy is the foundation for personal and professional success. Through our literacy programs, which include partnerships with the Dayton Metro Library, we provide resources and events that inspire a love for reading and learning among both teens and adults.
Additionally, we are committed to raising awareness about sickle cell anemia, a cause close to our hearts due to Saadia's battle with the disease. Our health initiatives include annual Sickle Cell Awareness Walks and wellness fairs that educate the community and support those affected by chronic illnesses.
Through these community-driven efforts, The Hunt Foundation strives to support and empower the next generation, fostering a culture of learning and wellness in Dayton.
Our story begins with a love story. Alvin and Saadia Hunt met in the late 1970s in Dayton, Ohio. Their shared values and passion for community service drew them together, leading to their marriage in April 1979. Settling in Dayton, they raised their family with a strong emphasis on education, hard work, and future preparation. Alvin and Saadia were active participants in various local organizations, particularly those focused on youth and scholarship programs.
Tragically, Saadia passed away in 2008 due to Sickle Cell Disease, a genetic condition she battled throughout her life. Alvin continued his work in the community until his passing in 2020. In their honor, daughters Tia and Taryn founded The Hunt Foundation to continue their parents’ mission and values.
